“We are really excited that over 80 percent of our filmmakers indicated they will be attending STIFF. We’re dedicated to creating a destination festival for emerging filmmakers,” says festival director Timothy Vernor.

In addition to providing a disruptive, independent film program, STIFF serves as the region’s first and only transmedia collective, connecting the local filmmaking community with new storytelling platforms.

“The festival is a real opportunity for audiences to be the first to see this type of work – to say, ‘I was there.’ Filmmakers are sure to leave inspired to move into this new frontier,” adds Vernor.

SEATTLE TRANSMEDIA &
INDEPENDENT FILM FESTIVAL
Seattle, Washington - USA
May 1 to 9, 2015

Dear Filmmaker,

In the Spotlight today is the 11th Annual Seattle Transmedia & Independent Film Festival (STIFF), embracing the evolution of film and welcoming a new digital age of storytelling the festival also encourages submissions of video games, digital comics, and other new media. STIFF creates a unique visual experience for fest attendees and seeks artists and storytellers that are pushing the boundaries of their medium and will create a memorable experience for Seattle's alternative audience.

A champion for documentary filmmakers the festival encourages films that challenge and shatter perceptions - audiences each year leave with a compelling call to action and new insight of some of the most captivating issues. Other categories include Student Short, Experimental, Animated Short, Interactive In-App Storytelling, Fan Projects and many more - competing filmmakers have a shot at $3,000+ USD in cash and prizes. Runtime doesn't influence the STIFF selection and programming process, as the festival is guided by a filmmaker-first philosophy that allows every story the space and time it deserves.

In 2013 director Jeremy Berg won the STIFF Audience Award with his horror flick The Invoking and ultimately picked up distribution from Ruthless Pictures. The more than 130 screenings aside, the festival celebrates in raucous style, jamming along to alternative music, after-hours parties, and lavish galas for distribution of the coveted "STIFFY" Award. Guest passes are offered to all filmmakers who submit to STIFF, not just to those whose work is selected.

Last night at the STIFF 2014 Red Carpet Party we announced that we are re-focusing the festival in 2015 to emphize Transmedia projects. Right now we are really focused on putting on a great 2014 festival but I wanted to take a minute to discuss why we are making the change.

Transmedia means using more than one platform to tell a story. The platforms we are most interested in are Feature Films, Short Films, Web Series, Video Games, Role Playing (on websites, social media, interviews) & online and offline comic books/graphic novels and we are very open to seeing what other platforms become available.

SEATTLE TRUE
INDEPENDENT FILM FESTIVAL
Seattle, Washington - USA
May 2 to 10, 2014

In the Spotlight today is the 10th Annual Seattle True Independent Film Festival (STIFF), uncovering films that don't just push the boundaries of cinematic storytelling, they shatter audience expectations. By seeking out films with challenging or unsettling content, STIFF has cultivated a reputation for championing just the sort of material that's perfect for the off-beat film fan. The result is a festival that looks, feels, and celebrates in ways all its own.

Runtime doesn't influence the STIFF selection and programming process, as the festival is guided by a filmmaker-first philosophy that allows every story the space and time it deserves. Whether promoting a mind-bending documentary or a narrative short with a comical bend, STIFF recognizes that independent filmmaking doesn't have to be a solitary enterprise. In fact, the festival embodies the notion that filmmaking and marketing cannot be achieved without an engaged community of like-minded artists.

Last year's STIFF boasted over 100 brain-tingling, eye-popping, heart-stopping works culled from independent voices with plenty to say. Just as important, the festival celebrated in raucous style, jamming along to alternative music, after-hours parties, and lavish galas for distribution of the coveted "STIFFY" Award. Guest passes are offered to all filmmakers who submit to STIFF, not just to those whose work is selected.

STIFF is dedicated to the exhibition of independent, underground, experimental, and low budget films. The festival endeavors to provide cultural exchange and educational opportunities by providing an exciting place for networking between local filmmakers, visiting filmmakers, and the public.

MORE ABOUT THE FESTIVAL
STIFF doles out more than $3,000 USD in cash and prizes and welcomes a wide and varied array of content. The festival features a Student Short Film competition, a Web Series competition, even a category that programs an entire night of shorts too gross, too violent, or too overtly sexual for general consumption. There's even a special Saturday morning program dedicated exclusively to cartoons.

We are officially announcing the addition of 2 new categories to our submissions process. This year we decided to pay special attention to them and give them a special place with dedicated programmers and screenings.

STIFF has recieved the Seattle Weekly Reader's Picks Award for "Best Film Fest (Besides SIFF)". They added-If SIFF is the three-week spring juggernaut for serious Seattle filmgoers, the 8-year-old Seattle True Independent Film Festival is the scrappier, shorter palette-cleaner, next year scheduled for May 2-10, soon before SIFF.
